Low Fat Diet Weight Loss - 3 Things You Can Do To Avoid Over Eating at a Restaurant

Do you find yourself over eating every time you go out to eat? Perhaps your lifestyle is hindering your weight loss. Since dieting (for the most part) is about the amount calories you are taking in, eating out often can ruin progress.

If you love to eat, going to a restaurant for dinner is considered the Holy Grail. It's easy to find yourself feeling guilty the next day after eating out.

Here are three things you can do to avoid overeating at a restaurant (especially if you're on a low fat diet for weight loss).

The first thing you want to do is eat something healthy before you go out to eat. You don't have to eat a full meal. However you should eat a snack. For example you want to eat a clean protein source and perhaps a piece of fruit. This will help your appetite when you get to the restaurant.

Sit down in a quiet area with a pen and paper and start thinking about what makes you over eat. Perhaps it's the menu items or the excitement of going out to eat? Or maybe you are looking for something different than the old boring meals you eat during the week?

The second thing is: once you identify the problem areas, you can start working towards fixing them. For example, you can change your eating habits at the restaurant so you don't leave bloated. Or make a few simple rules, such as no dessert or soda during the meal.

In fact, if you're bored with what you eat during the week, you should consider making different meals (this may lower the frequency of going to a restaurant).

Look for healthy choices on the menu. For example, look for items that are not fried and not high in fat. You can also stay away from breads and starches during your meal.

The last point I want to mention should help you when you're out on the town and if there aren't any healthy options on the menu, work to eat smaller portions. We all know we need to eat and you don't want to feel guilty after eating.

Your best bet is to eat in small amounts. The way to do this is to get smaller meal sizes (as opposed to larger sizes), the smaller portion of the menu item. You can also eat half the meal only and have the rest wrapped up. You can also request this ahead of time while ordering your meal. It's not a perfect solution but then again it will be better than bingeing.
